Contest details

The contest will be conducted in three rounds within university premises. All the rounds will
be judged by renowned toastmasters of the country adhering to the rules and regulations of
TMI.

Preliminaries
Tuesday, 06th October 2009

• This round will be open to all undergraduates of the university who had registered
• for the contest.
• Each Participant will have to give a prepared speech of 4-6 minutes.
• All participants will receive participation certificates from the Toastmasters International

Semi-Finals
Wednesday, 14th October 2009

• Best 12 contestants of the preliminaries will be chosen for semi-finals.
• There will be 2 reserves excluding the above 12
• Each contestant will have to deliver a prepared speech of 5-7 minutes and an impromptu speech of 1-2 minutes
• All the contestants of the semi-finals will receive certificates from the Toastmasters International

Finals
Thursday, 22nd October 2009

• Best 5 contestants of the Semi-finals will be eligible to compete in the finals
• There will be 2 reserves excluding the above 5
• Each contestant will have to deliver a prepared speech of 5-7 minutes and an impromptu speech of 1-2 minutes
• In addition, each of the contestants will have to face an interview session in front of the audience
• All the contestants of the finals will receive certificates from the Toastmasters International
• The winner will receive a trophy, gift vouchers and a special mention certificate from the Toastmasters International
• The 1st and 2nd runners up will receive gift vouchers and a special mention certificate from the Toastmasters International

The competition is held to discover the best speaker in the University of Moratuwa. It is open to all the undergraduates in the University. The dates of the competition are as follows.

Preliminary round: Tuesday, 6th October

Semi-Finals: Wednesday, 14th October

Finals: Thursday, 22nd October

The Preliminary round will run the whole day. The Semi finals and finals will consume only half a day. Registration is not yet open. Stay with the blog to find out how to get yourself registered.

The Event

Speak Olympiad is the flag ship event of the Gavel club of University of Moratuwa. This annual contest which seeks to find the best public speaker draws participants from all the faculties of the university.
